Nod to bill to enhance child protection

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a Bill to amend the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, to enhance the child protection set-up to ensure the best interests of children. The Bill that categories previously undefined offences as "serious offences" provides for empowerment of the district magistrates for smooth implementation as wewll as garner synergised efforts in favour of children in distress. It also empowers the district and additional district magistrate to issue orders under Section 61 of the Act to ensure speedy disposal of cases and enhance accountability.
