Cong to collect 50L ‘gamochas’ with anti-CAA messages

GUWAHATI: Following Rahul Gandhi’s emphatic assertion Congress will not implement CAA if voted to power in Assam, the state unit on Wednesday urged cadres to collect ‘Gamochas’ with messages against the Act. The gamochas collected as part of the anti-CAA campaign will be displayed at the martyrs memorial to commemorat­e the protesters who sacrificed lives the party proposes to set up in Guwahati if voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections.

Meanwhile, 4 journalist­s, including a woman, were among 6 persons arrested on Wednesday for their alleged attempt to malign Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after they shared a photo of him along with his daughter with a "salacious intent", police said. The minister's wife had filed a complaint with the Dispur police station under the POCSO Act, following which the Guwahati City Police began probing the case. Taufiquddi­n Ahmad, the Editor-in-Chief of news website ‘Pratibimba Live’, News Editor Asif Iqbal Hussain and 2 other employees Nazmul Hussain and Nurul Hussain were arrested.
