Truly golden issues

With the slogan of Jai Shri Ram, CAA and the outsider jibe becoming the poll plank in the state elections of West Bengal, the main issues of the masses, such as clean drinking water, electricity, good roads, sanitation, prices of petrol and diesel and so on, have been left far behind by politicians. These are the real electoral issues. Without addressing these, how can politicians make us dream about the transfor mation of West Bengal into ‘Sonar Bangla’ (golden Bengal)?

Grand Slam dunk

(February 22). Novak Djokovic had said before the start of the Australian Open final, if the younger generation of tennis stars wanted to start holding Grand Slam trophies, they had better be prepared for him to fight back. And went on to prove it, despite an abdominal upset. Displaying master class in power and precision, he overwhelmed Daniil Medvedev and clinched his 18th Grand Slam title win in less than two hours.

Sprouting awareness

It is welcome to note that the Himachal Pradesh Gover nment is involving school students in planting saplings and ensuring their survival, to nurture awareness. The forest department has set up the ‘Vidyarthi Van Mitra Yojna’, under which eco clubs have been set up in schools, to identify open or degraded forest areas for carrying out the plantation of indigenous species. The students are responsible for the plantation of the saplings and maintenance of the area on a long-ter m basis. This is a commendable move, which not only creates awareness among students on conservation of forest and wildlife but also emphasises conservation of natural resources.
