4 of family among 7 die in UP mishap

LUCKNOW: 4 of a family were among 7 who died when their Innova rammed into an overturned oil tanker near 68 Milestone on Yamuna Expressway late Tuesday night. A speeding oil tanker overturned on the other side of Yamuna Expressway af ter a tyre burst. Before the UPEIDA rescue van could come and sound an alert, an Innova, coming from Agra rammed into the overturned tanker killing its 7 occupants on the spot. The deceased, Manoj (45), wife Babita, (40), sons Abhay (18), Hemant (16) and his 2 relatives Kannu (10) and Himandri (14). They were all residents of Jind in Haryana and were returning from Mathura af ter offering prayers at Banke Bihari temple. The Innova’s driver, Rakesh Singh, also died. Police and fire officials rushed to the spot. Fire tenders were pressed into service and the traffic was allowed af ter water was sprayed on the leaked oil. Meanwhile, a speeding truck mowed down 11 people, killing over 4 on the spot, in West Bengal's Burdwan district on the National Highway (NH)-2 on Wednesday evening near Palsit when the truck hit a group of passengers waiting for local transport along the highway, police said.
