Cop, liquor mafia member killed in Bihar encounter

An armed gang of the liquor mafia on Wednesday shot dead a police sub-inspector and wounded a constable during an encounter on Indo-Nepal border, 150 km north of Patna. In retaliator­y firing, a member of the liquor mafia was also killed, while another surrendere­d.

According to the Sitamarhi deputy SP, PN Sahu, a team of policemen from Majorgunj police station had intercepte­d a vehicle at Kowari village, 2 km from Nepal border. As the vehicle was stopped, members of liquor mafia led by Ranjan Singh started firing on police in which 2 policemen received bullet wounds. Sub-Inspector Dinesh Ram died on his way to the hospital. Constable Lal Babu Paswan is admitted in a private hospital.
