St climbs higher, Coal India shines

Equity benc hmark indices advanced on T hursday due to f avourable global cues amid optimism over domestic economic r ecovery and the government's privatisat­ion plans.

Market ex perts said the sentiment was positi ve as the go vernment lifted the embargo on g ranting b usinesses to pri vate banks , which is expected to enhance customer con venience and spur competitio­n.

At the c losing b ell, the BSE S&P Sensex was up b y 258 points or 0.51 per cent at 51,039 w hile the Nifty 50 ticked up b y 115 points or 0.77 per cent to 15,097.

Apart fr om Nifty FMCG and financial service , all sectoral indices a t the National Stock Exchange were in the positive ter rain with Nifty metal g aining b y 3.9 per cent and PSU bank b y 1.1 per cent.

Among stocks, Coal India moved up by 8.6 per cent to Rs 156.90 per share and UPL ticked higher b y 7.3 per cent to Rs 594.50.

Adani P orts was up b y 6 per cent, Hindalco b y 5.1 per cent, ONGC b y 4.5 per cent and Tata Motors by 3.7 per cent.
