Voda Idea seeks rapid progress in 5G trials

Vodafone Idea Ltd Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ra vin der Takkar has called for rapid progress in fifth generation trials in India at a time when the next-generation technology is gaining traction in the country.

Earlier, Informatio­n Technology Minister Ra vi Shankar Prasad had said the permit for the trials will be given soon.

Takkar said the recent report b y the par liamentary panel on inf ormation technology, which r eviewed India's pr eparedness f or 5G , "underlines the need f or rapid progress on 5G trials and de ployment of Indiaspeci­fic use cases".

The panel, headed b y MP Shashi T haroor, h ad slammed the De partment of Telecommun­ications for the dela y in the launc h of 5G services and urg ed the auction of 5G spectr um in the 3,300 MHz to 3,600 MHz bands at the earliest.
