Mass marriage of 3,229 couples solemnised Amid

the melodious sound of shehnai and Vedic chanting, 3,229 couples tied the nuptial knot in a mass marriage programme held at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium Complex in the capital city Raipur on Saturday. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel attended the programme held under Mukhyamant­ri Kanya Vivaah Samaroh Yojana, and extended his blessings to the newly wed couples, an official communique said.

For the first time in Chhattisga­rh (CG), mass wedding ceremonies were simultaneo­usly organised in 22 districts, under this scheme. Meanwhile, all the districts participat­ed in the function organised at capital Raipur through video conferenci­ng. In the ceremony held at Raipur, 233 couples entered into wedlock including three Christians and a Muslim couple. There is no greater virtue than ' Kanyadaan', and it has way more significan­ce when done on the day of Maghi Punni, the CM said. During the interactio­n, CM announced an increment in the amount of financial aid under Mukhyamant­ri Kanya Vivaah Yojana, Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.

Af ter battling for life for about 10 days, the third victim, who was poisoned along with two other girls in the Unnao double murder case, was discharged from the Kanpur ’s Regency Hospital on Saturday.

She was given a warm welcome at home by her family and villagers. Many villagers distribute­d sweets, garlanded her and offered prayers to the god for af ter her recover y from the poison attack by the arrested accused Vinay.

“We have been praying to the god for her to survive. We are already devastated af ter losing two of our girls. Family is delighted to see her back home. We will get justice only when the accused are hanged,” said an elder in the family.
