ON MAY 2, HOLD ME TO MY LAST TWEET: PRASHANT

- ARITRA SINGHA

The war of words between Trinamool Congress and BJP on Saturday continued on Twitter as the saffron camp pooh-poohed the TMC slogan ‘Bangla nijer meyekeyi chaye’ (Bengal wants its own daughter).

A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the poll dates, Prashant Kishor, who is looking after the poll strategy of TMC, took to Twitter and wrote that Bengal is determined to show ‘right card’ to the TMC in the upcoming Assembly polls.

“One of the key battles FOR DEMOCRACY in India will be fought in West Bengal, and the people of Bengal are ready with their MESSAGE and determined to show the RIGHT CARD - #BanglaNijerMeyekeiChay (Bengal Only Wants its Own Daughter) PS: On 2nd May, hold me to my last tweet,” read the tweet of the poll strategist. Slamming the slogan, Union Minister Babul Supriyo posted a photo which featured women leaders of the BJP, and was written they are the daughters of Bengal.

BJP Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga wrote “You are right Prashant, Bengal will vote this time for their daughters. 100+ Daughters who became widows in the past 5 years in TMC Violence, daughters who left Bengal because they didn't get a job, daughters who were Raped by TMC Leaders. #BanglaDidirThekeMuktiChay.”

'BJP won't get a single seat in Midnapore'

Amidst chants of ‘Joy Bangla’ (Hail Bengal) and ‘Khela Hobe’ (will play), Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew ofChief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that people’s excitement while chanting ‘Bangla Nijer Meye ke Chaye’ clearly proves that the TMC will come back with absolute majority.

“The outsiders (BJP) don't know the pulse of Bengal and they will fail to form the government in Bengal. ECI to give privilege to someone special has kept polls in Midnapore in two phases but even if there are 31 phases, the TMC will win,” said the TMC MP addressing a public rally after the roadshow.

TMC, BJP to declare candidates next week

West Bengal BJP said that they will declare the candidates for the first phase within a week. The ruling Trinamool Congress will announce their candidates on March 2. According to BJP sources, Central BJP leaders have started talking with the state counterpart to select the name of the probable candidates and the candidates for the first phase will be declared within a week. The BJP sources also confirmed that the popular faces with huge mass connect will be given priority.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress said that they will give out the names of their candidates on March 2.
