Peace marathon held in Abhujmad

Thethird edition of 21-kilometre-long Abhujmad Peace Marathon was successful­ly held on Saturday in the naxal affected district of Narayanpur. Anish Thapa of Hyderabad emerged the winner. He completed the 21-km-long run in 55:19 minutes. In the women categor y, Kumari Ritu of Uttar Pradesh bagged first prize, an official communique said. The winners who won the marathon were given cash prizes of Rs1.21 lakh each. The run from Narayanpur to Basing Bahar, the gateway of Abhujmad, attracted a lot of enthusiast­ic runners from all over the countr y. 11,797 athletes across India made online registrati­on. The marathon was conducted with an objective of giving a new positive and vibrant identity to the Abhujmad and Narayanpur as well as Bastar region, said Sundarraj P, IGP, Bastar.

Sounding a corona alert at all airports in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has made Covid-19 test mandatory for all air travellers coming from Maharashtr­a and Kerala. A decision to this effect was taken af ter a meeting of Team-11, constitute­d last year to deal with the pandemic. The call was taken in view of a spike in corona cases in Maharashtr­a and Kerala.

The CM directed all airlines to provide the corona test facility at all airports in the state. The health department has also been directed to keep a vigil on those coming from these two states. Additional Chief Secretar y Amit Mohan Prasad said air travellers will be allowed to go only af ter undergoing an antigen test at the airport.

“Air travellers from these states will be allowed to leave the airport only af ter the RT-PCR test at the airport. We have also issued instructio­ns to check randomly trains coming from Maharashtr­a and Kerala,” he said.

About 300 air travellers at Lucknow from Maharashtr­a tested negative in the last 48 hours. “We are leaving nothing to chance af ter arresting the pandemic in Uttar Pradesh. Last year, it spread af ter foreigners visited the Taj, Agra,” said another officer.

The state is conducting 1.25 lakh tests daily to take the recover y rate to all-India at 98.20%. The health department has urged people to avoid travelling to Maharashtr­a, Kerala and other states where the cases shot up in the last 10 days.
