Plea in Apex court against Bengal polls in 8 phases
Delhi lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma, known for filing the PILs in Supreme Court at a drop of the hat, on Monday moved it to declare as unconstitutional the Election Commission's decision last Friday to hold the West Bengal assembly elections in eight phases.
He has claimed in his petition that conducting the elections in so many phases violates the right to equality and life under Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution.
No date is yet fixed for hearing his plea for an urgent direction, pleading to take it up immediately since the notification for the first phase of polls is to be issued on March 2.
