Jaipur blast accused gets bail after 12 yrs
Shahbaz Ahmed, an accused in the 1993 Jaipur bomb blast case, was given bail by the Rajasthan High Court after the prosecution failed to produce satisfactory evidence.
Ahmed, 48, was charged with sending an e-mail claiming responsibility for the blasts that rocked Jaipur. In all, bombs planted at eight locations in the Walled City went off on May 13, 2008, killing 71 people and injuring scores of others.
Ahmed has been in custody since 2008. He was granted bail by the Rajasthan high court on February 25.
Ahmed’s advocate Mujahid Ahmed said the court has given bail till disposal of the case. “It is temporary relief. He can remain out of jail till the final decision comes in the case,” said Mujahid Ahmed.
Jaipur Greater mayor’s hubby held
Rajaram Gurjar, the husband of BJP leader and Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor Soumya Gurjar, has been arrested by Karauli district police in connection with a case of assault. Gurjar had been granted interim bail by the Rajasthan high court till February 20. However, his bail application was rejected by the court when it went up for hearing on Monday.
