BIS issues clarification regarding misleading statements on Indian Standards for Safety of Toys in media

-

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has come across misleading statements in the news media which are creating an impression that Indian Standards for ‘Safety of Toys’ are not available.

In this context, it is clarified that the Indian Standards for Safety published by BIS are available and can be downloaded from BIS website www.bis.gov.in. The standards are adoptions of the International Standards for the Safety of Toys. As per the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 issued by the Department for Promotion of Industr y and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministr y of Commerce and Trade, all toys must conform to the Indian Standards for safety of toys and bear the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a licence issued by BIS from Jan 1 2021. Since August 2020, BIS has already issued more than 190 licences to domestic toy manufacturers. The application process for grant of BIS licence is completely online for domestic manufacturers. They can apply for a licence through BIS Manak online Portal www.manakonline.in
