Govt brings insurance brokers under ombusdman
NEW DELHI: The Centre has notified amendments to the Insurance Ombudsman Rules, 2017, which enable the mechanism to deal with complaints regarding deficiencies in insurance services, from only disputes earlier, the finance ministr y said in a release.
Accordingly, insurance ombudsmen can now pass awards against insurers, agents and insurance brokers, the release said. Policyholders can now file and track complaints online, with hearings in the digital mode through video conferencing. T
The ombudsmen will be administered by the Council for Insurance Ombudsmen. The selection committee for ombudsmen will now include an individual with a track record of promoting consumer rights or advancing the cause of consumer protection in the insurance sector.
