Taking serious note of an incident that took place at a COVID-19 centre in Aurangabad where a doctor allegedly tried to molest a woman patient, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced that the doctor has been dismissed. He, however, clarified that it wasn’t rape as per the preliminary inquiry.

He said that standard operating procedures will be put in place before March 31 for all COVID19 centres to prevent such incidents in the future. “It's a very unfortunate incident. There has been no rape. However, such an incident to happen in a hospital is very alarming. The government has taken the incident seriously. A primary inquiry has been conducted by a senior female doctor and this appears to be true in the female patient's allegation. The doctor has been dismissed," said Pawar.

The issue was raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Manisha Chaudhary in the state legislative assembly. Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said that he had written four letters to the chief minister on the rise in incidents of crime against women in COVID-19 care centres and sought standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb them. Pawar assured that the government will put in place SOPs for the COVID19 centres.

“There has been no rape. However, such an incident to happen in a hospital is very alarming. “
