Waiting period for Maruti, TaMo cars crosses 60 days
Customers looking to buy cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Hyundai Motor India and Tata Motors Ltd are witnessing a waiting period of around three months in March, as compared to the usual 15-20 days across models, trade sources told Informist.
The extended wait is largely on account of lower dispatches by these companies, following lower production because of supply chain disruptions, especially the lack of semiconductors. Shortages of global semi-conductor and electronic control units has affected automakers. Thus, they are unable to meet the demand for passenger vehicles currently, said Vinkesh Gulati, president of Federation
Of Automobile Dealers Associations. While many automakers have been able to manage the supply shortages so far, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has been the worst hit because of the disruption. Among passenger vehicles, the wait for those wanting to buy M&M's Thar is the longest at nine months, sources cited above said.
Passenger vehicles include cars and sports utility vehicles. The company received 17,000 fewer electronic control units in Februar y, and the issue will remain till the end of June, Rajesh Jehurikar, executive director of auto and farm sector at M&M said recently.
