Point to ponder

- Bidyut Kumar Chatterjee

On the one hand, the British Parliament’s petitions committee will consider a Westminster Hall debate on the issue of farmers protests and press freedom in India after an online petition attracted over 1,06,000 signatures, and on the other, India has been dropped from a list of ‘free’ countries drawn up by an 80-year-old democracy watchdog, ‘Freedom House’, mostly funded by the US government. One reason for India losing its ‘free’ status is the frequent use of the sedition law and others, to deter free speech. Agreed, these are our internal matters but it's time for soul-searching by the Modi government – why are outsiders taking notice?

Sanjeev Mittal, General Manager, Central Railway inaugurated Qseries relay manufacturing facility at Central Railway Signal Workshop, Byculla. This Relay is widely used in all signal interlocking works and its availability has always been a challenge. The production volume of the relay will be enhanced in the times to come to meet the requirement of Central Railway. As this scarcely available item – Q-series Relay is manufactured only in two signal workshop i.e Gorakhpur and Podanur on Indian Railways. Therefore, the production from the Signal Workshop of Central Railway will also cater to the requirement of other Zonal Railways.
