Announcement hollow: Mamata

- ARITRA SINGHA Kolkata

A day after the PM said the vaccines will be available in the open market, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a letter to Modi slammed him for not cooperating ahead of the polls.

“I am informed the Centre announced the much-delayed universal vaccine policy on April 19, which appears to be hollow, without substance and a regrettable show of evasion of responsibility at the time of crisis,” read the letter by the TMC supremo.

Slamming the NDA government at the Centre for not cooperating with her ahead of the poll, the CM said the central government didn’t reply to her letter on February 24 in which she had said the Trinamool Congress is ready to buy the vaccines which the TMC will give out to the people of West Bengal for free ahead of the polls.

“The announcement by the Centre can lead to unscrupulous mechanism as the announcement didn’t clear major issues like ensuring quality, efficacy, stable flow of supply of required number of doses by the manufactur

ers and the price at which the vaccines are to be purchased by the states,” stated the TMC chief.

“In sum, I would earnestly request you to kindly ensure a fair, transparent and credible vaccination policy addressing all the issues outlined above, which would enable the people of the country to get vaccines urgently at affordable prices as per current scale as applicable,” read the letter by the West Bengal CM Banerjee.
