MHA instructs Bengal govt to ramp up testing

The Ministry of Home Affairs wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister to increase corona testing in several districts of West Bengal. With increase in covid cases, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to increase testing facilities in districts of the state where the testing conducted is comparativ­ely low.

Notably, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had several times written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending more vaccines in the state as due to scarcity of which several people are being denied even the first dose of vaccines. In several hospitals in Kolkata patients were seen lying on the floor and even some expiring on the stretcher for not getting admission in the hospital. Sagarika Mitra, who lost her mother while admitting her to the hospital, claimed that the oxygen cylinder that she has rented with Rs 13,000 ran out of oxygen and before even getting a bed at the hospital her mother died in the ambulance.
