Finally clearing the air on whether or not there would be board exams for Class 10, the Maharashtra state school education department on Friday released a government resolution (GR) on the assessment policy for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) board students. This GR was muchawaited as the board exams conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has been cancelled this year due to Covid-19 situation.

According to the GR dated May 28, 2021, “Class 10 SSC board students will be awarded 50 marks per subject based on their final scores in Class 9, 30 marks based on the written examinations conducted in the entire academic year of Class 10 and 20 marks based on the final viva-voce, practical exams and internal assessment of Class 10.” Students will be thus assessed, for a maximum of 100 marks for each subject.

State School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “Final results of Class 10 fresh students will be based on subject-wise marks scored by a student in the internal written evaluation conducted during the year contributing to 30 marks, 20 marks for homework, oral exam, practical and internal assignments as per the board’s policy and 50 marks based on the final results of Class 9. We have devised separate assessment policies for repeater, private and isolated students.” Any student who is not satisfied with the marks allotted thus will have the opportunity to appear in the next couple of examinations for improvement in scores. Gaikwad said, “These exams will be conducted by the MSBSHSE board af ter the conditions become more conducive to hold exams.” State-board affiliated schools will have to form a result committee of seven members headed by the principal or headmaster and comprising six teachers for the purpose of finalisation of results and the safekeeping of records. The results of over 16 lakh students of the SSC board in Maharashtra will be declared by the end of June. Gaikwad said, “Schools will be given timelines for various activities, to allow the SSC board to declare results by June-end. The board will organise webinars, upload FAQs at mahahsscboard.in and set up helplines to provide a detailed understanding of the assessment process to schools and teachers.”
