Common entrance test for FYJC

- RONALD RODRIGUES / Mumbai

In order to maintain uniformity in admissions to Class 11-First Year Junior College (FYJC), an optional Common Entrance Test (CET) will be conducted, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced on Friday. The state school education department released a government resolution (GR) dated May 28, highlighting the CET exam provision.

According to the GR, the optional CET exam will be based on the Class 10 syllabus and will consist of multiple-choice objective questions for 100 marks. The exam will be conducted via the Optical Mark Reading (OMR) method for two hours.

Gaikwad said, “Students of all boards can appear for the optional CET exam for admission to Class 11. The optional CET exam will be conducted by the school education department across the state once the Covid-19 situation improves. Detailed guidelines will be issued shortly.”

Students appearing for optional CET will be given first preference for admissions to FYJC. Gaikwad said, “Students who have appeared for the optional CET will be given preference for admissions to FYJC, based on their CET scores. After these admissions are completed, the remaining vacant seats in junior colleges will be allotted to those students who did not appear for optional CET. These students will be considered for FYJC admission based on their evaluation as per the internal assessment in Class 10.” This decision has been taken to ensure uniformity and comparability in Class 11 admissions. Gaikwad said, “It will ensure fair play for students across all boards as this year, all boards have cancelled Class 10 examinations due to the Covid-19 situation and devised their respective assessment policies at the school-level.”
