The patients of Mucormycosis will get free treatment under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY), a Maharashtra government’s flagship medical insurance scheme.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has made this announcement on Friday following the state gover nment’s directive.

The civic body has designated four hospitals for free treatment of Mucormycosis under MJPJAY in Navi Mumbai. These hospitals are Civic Hospital in sector 10 in Vashi, Dr. DY Patil Hospital at Sector 5 in Nerul, Indravati Hospital at Sector 3 in Airoli, and Terna Hospital at Sector 22 in Nerul.

“The cost of treatment for this Mucormycosis is very high as it requires the services of a specialist. Therefore, in order to avoid the financial burden of the patients with Mucormycosis, the Department of Public Health, Government of Ma

harashtra, has included treatment for Mucormycosis in the MJPJAY as per the Gover nment Directive dated 18 May 2021,” said a senior official from civic health department.

The antifungal drugs required for the treatments are expensive. Therefore, the gover nment has decided that these medicines should be made available free of cost by the concer ned authority as per the

prevailing rules and regulations of the gover nment.

Meanwhile, NMMC has set up special OPD for free screening of the disease at Vashi, Airoli, and Nerul hospitals. “If the citizens experience any symptoms related to myocardial infection, they should immediately undergo free check-up at the OPD of the nearest municipal hospital,” said the municipal commissioner Abhijeet Bangar.
