MMRDA sets up emergency monsoon control room
Considering the trouble arising from waterlogging, heavy rains and other issues during monsoon, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has set up a 24-hour emergency control room. This control room is operational from June 1, 2021, and will remain active till October 15, 2021. Citizens can contact the control rooms on 022-26594176 and 8657402090. According to the MMRDA, the primar y role of the control room will be to address monsoonrelated complaints, follow them up, coordinate and interact with State Government, BMC and other local bodies and disaster control agencies.
The control room staffs will be working in three shif ts, facilitating Mumbaikars to help connect in crisis like water logging, accidents, potholes and falling trees. The objective of this control room is to avoid inconvenience caused to the pedestrians and motorists if any due to the several on-going projects initiated by the MMRDA. The officials will keep a watch on unusual threats and dangers. The officials will also monitor the flow of rainwater at various MMRDA sites and have also instructed the contractors to follow all safety measures. Newly-appointed MMRDA Commissioner SVR. Srinivas has directed contractors to install dewatering pumps where there is no connectivity to drains and reservoirs. Some of the most vital jobs would be to ensure that barricades are proper and do not hinder motorists, damaged roads are addressed and cleaning up dirt on road. Likewise, Mumbai Monorail will also be monitored separately from their 24x7 central control room (OCC) at Wadala depot.
