The Kalamboli police have arrested three persons for allegedly killing their 15year-old friend in Kalamboli earlier this week. According to the police, the victim, a Class 9 student, was addicted to cannabis, alcohol and drugs and was beaten to death over an argument while drinking alcohol at a market.

The arrested persons are identified as Pratik Pagare, 18, Udit Naik, 22, and a 16year-old boy. They are all residents of Kalamboli and were friends of the deceased.

The accused have been charged with murder.

On July 23, at around 7 am, the police found an unidentified youth lying injured at sector 5E in Kalamboli. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case of murder was registered at Kalamboli police station against unidentified persons.

The same day, the police established the identity of the deceased; Nitesh Sunil Duvedi was a resident of Kopra in Kharghar. His family lived in Kalamboli before shifting to Kharghar two months ago.

Senior police inspector Sanjay Patil said that Duvedi was addicted to multiple drugs, including cannabis, alcohol, and drug pills. “Along with his friends, he used to roam during the night and commit petty crimes like theft and spend the money on drugs,” said Patil.

On the night of July 22, he was drinking along with his friends near a minimarket in Kalamboli, when his other friends came there to drink. However, Duvedi had a fight with them over some issues. “Duvedi slapped one of them following an argument,” said Patil. He added that they kept arguing even after they left the market and later beat him up and fled. The injuries were so grave that he died sometime later.
