The Manpada police in Dombivali returned gold ornaments weighing nearly 80 gm to a 50-yearold woman who left them in an auto-rickshaw. The police traced the vehicle within an hour with the help of CCTV footage and recovered the valuables worth Rs 3.5 lakh.

Shobha Gaikwad, a resident of Davadi, was visiting her family in Dadar to attend a wedding ceremony. On her return, she took an auto-rickshaw from Dombivali railway station but forgot her bag in it.

Panicking, she approached the Manpada police station, where assistant police inspector Avinash Vanve, under the guidance of senior police inspector Shekar Badge, started the investigation. Vanve said CCTV footage was checked to trace the auto-rickshaw, which had a peculiar sign on it that Gaikwad had remembered. Though the driver denied knowledge of the misplaced ornaments, they were during a search of his house.
