State hikes compoundin­g fees for traffic offences

The Maharashtr­a government has hiked the compoundin­g fees for traffic offences. This would mean motorists flouting traffic norms will now have to pay more. Officials from the Maharashtr­a transport department said the hike will help bring down accidents and ensure traffic discipline. The compoundin­g fees has been hiked to Rs 500 for the first offence and Rs 1,500 for the second offence and thereafter. -
