TMC to shut Diva dumping ground, Bhandarli gets nod
Mayor Naresh Mhaske thanked the efforts of cabinet minister Eknath Shinde and MP Shrikant Shinde
If things go as per plan, the citizens of Diva and Mumbra will soon have fresh air to breathe.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) authorities are set to close the Diva dumping ground and start a new one in Bhandarli.
TMC municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma and Mayor Naresh Mhaske, and other TMC officials visited the new site and announced the proposed plan.
Mhaske said the problems of the Diva dumping ground would be permanently solved in the coming days. He thanked the efforts of cabinet minister Eknath Shinde and MP Shrikant Shinde.
“Very soon, we will start the new dumping ground and start the garbage recycling process. People or political parties should now not protest or create any issues. It’s all for the citizens, and we are working out to solve the problem faced by them,” Mhaske said.
As per the TMC officials, most of the waste collected from different parts of Thane city is dumped at the Diva dumping ground. This resulted in air pollution and other health issues. However, to carry out a proper recycling process of garbage, the authorities were looking for their land. Therefore the search for an open plot of land has been going on for the past few months.
“At last, the authorities found an open land of 10 acres in Bhandarli. The land was taken on a rental basis after completing the procedure and paperwork,” said an official from the TMC.
