A day after man’s body found in Kalwa creek, 3 held for murder

The Kalwa police in Thane have arrested three men for the murder of a 33-year-old man whose body was recovered from Kalwa creek on Wednesday. The police traced the accused in Govandi with

the help of the tailor’s mark from the shirt of the victim, Shaikh Mohammed Asif. They said the man was killed over a financial deal.

There were multiple injuries on the victim’s body and his hands were tied with a rope. He was identified as a resident of Givandi through the label on his shirt that read ‘Sunder Tailor’. A team headed by PI Mahesh Kavle reached Govandi to conduct the probe.

Deputy commission­er of police, Zone 1, Avinash Ambure said after identifyin­g the victim, his call data records were checked and the team zeroed in on three men within 24 hours. It was found that the victim had borrowed money on interest from a relative of one the accused – Nizamuddin Shaikh, 44, Mirza Ali Nawab, 30 and Mohammed Irfan Khan, 32, all residents of Shivaji Nagar in Govandi.

Assistant Commission­er of Police, Kalwa division, Venkat Andhale said the accused called the victim to a room in Shivaji Nagar on the pretext of giving him cash, but assaulted him with bamboo and sharp objects. After he succumbed, they put his body in a gunny bag and threw him in Kalwa creek.
