ALIRAJPUR: A superstiti­ous tribal man allegedly axed his 5-year-old son to death believing the boy was a bad omen for his family in a village in Alirajpur district of MP, police said on Friday. The incident took place at Kharkhadi village on Thursday afternoon. Dinesh Davar, 28, allegedly attacked his son Ram with an axe and cut him into 7 pieces, believing the boy was evil and his presence had cast miseries upon his family, SP Manoj Singh said. The accused claimed his wife was not keeping well and his family was facing hardships.

TIKAMGARH: Three policemen from Madhya Pradesh, who were going to Haryana in an SUV along with two others from Uttar Pradesh to rescue a kidnapped girl, died in a road accident on Yamuna Expressway in Mathura in UP on Friday morning, an official said. The three policemen belonged to Budera police station in Tikamgarh district of MP. Three others, including a police head constable, sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Mathura.

BALLIA (UP): A corporator was arrested for allegedly misbehavin­g with a Nagar Palika executive officer, police said on Friday. According to a complaint by Dinesh Kumar Vishwakarm­a, the Ward 16 corporator Vikas Kumar Pandey threw lime powder at him on Thursday in his temporary office in Dadri fair ground accusing him of corruption.

GIRIDIH: A man was allegedly lynched by a group of people in a village in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on suspicion of being a thief, police said on Friday. The incident took place in Khetko village on Thursday night. Four people were taken into custody as per directions of Giridih SP Amit Renu, an officer said.

Australian PM’s Special Trade Envoy Tony Abbott on Friday expressed confidence India and Australia would meet the deadline of finalising the proposed trade pact, which aimed at enhancing economic ties between the two countries. India and Australia have agreed to conclude a long-pending free trade agreement, officially dubbed comprehens­ive economic cooperatio­n agreement (CECA), by the end of 2022, and an early harvest trade deal by end of this year.
