DELHI HC SEEKS ED'S STAND ON BAHL'S PLEA AGAINST MONEY LAUNDERING CASE
The Delhi High Court Friday sought response from the Enforcement Directorate on media baron Raghav Bahl's petition to quash a money laundering case against him and refused to pass any order of interim protection at this stage.Justice Anu Malhotra granted three weeks to the ED to file its response to the petition which also seeks challenges the notices issued to the petitioner by the investigating officer.
SC JUNKS PLEA BY LAW STUDENT, SAYS THIS IS NOT MOOT COURT COMPETITION
The Supreme Court Friday refused to entertain a plea by a law student raising issues concerning citizens' right to vote saying," you should remember, this is not a Moot court competition." A bench headed by L Nageswara Rao asked the petitioner what Fundamental right has been violated against which he has filed a plea under Article 32 of the Constitution. The petitioner Rishi Sehgal responded that the plea addresses the violation of fundamental rights of the general citizens of the voters.
HC QUASHES ORDER IMPOUNDING PASSPORT OF AUTHOR
Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday set aside an order of the Regional Passport Authority here impounding passport of Leena Manimekalai, author, lyricist and filmmaker. Justice M Dhandapani, who quashed the September 9 order this year, however, directed Manimekalai to appear before a lower court, where a defamation case was pending against her and co-operate to complete the trial. A complaint under CrPC section 200 was lodged by Tamil film director Susi Ganeshan against Manimekalai before a Magistrate in Saidapet alleging her posts in the social media against him during the "Me too" movement.
