C’grah urban civic polls today
CM Bhupesh Baghel, top minister’s prestige at stake
Chhattisgarh will witness elections in 15 urban civic bodies in 10 of its districts (Raipur, Durg, Bemetara, Bijapur, Kanker, Rajnandgaon, Koriya, Surajpur, Sukma, Raigarh ) including four municipal corporations on Monday. Results will be announced on December 23.
Votes will be held between 8am and 5 pm strictly adhering to the Covid protocols.
Voting will be conducted through ballot papers. Even Covid patients will be allowed to vote.
Despite this being the second civic body polls in the state after Congress resumed power, it has become a crucial battle between the BJP and Congress especially in Durg, Bemetara, Sukma, and Raipur.
Especially in Durg and Bemetara districts, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and three powerful ministers… Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Woman and Child Welfare Minister Anila Bhedia’s prestige is at stake.
However, infighting within BJP has provided relief to the Cong top rung and this has badly affected the BJP in several places.
As per information received, the polling which will be held for Municipal Corporations (Bhilai, Rishali, Bhilai Charoda) seats, and Municipal Council Jamul seats, has created immense pressure on Congress leaders.
Election of Bhilai Municipal Corporation was fought under the acting Mayor Devendra Baghel, who is also Congress MLA and close aide of CM Baghel. Here, rebels will decide the fate. Meanwhile, in Rishali the Home Minister Sahu image is at stake, in Jamul Jogi Congress has complexed the situation because of its strength.
Meanwhile, in Raipur’s Birgaon Municipal Corporation, Congress is in better position because here Congress gave the charge of election to veteran MLA Satya Narayan Sharma and he has good hold among voters from Purvanchal (Bihar-UP), said poll analyst Manish Singh.
