Tsitsipas, Nadal, Medvedev survive

INDIAN WELLS: Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece came within two points of defeat before clawing his way back into the third round of the BNP Paribas Open with a 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(5) win against Jack Sock of the US here on Sunday (IST). Tsitsipas will next meet another American, the fast-improving Jenson Brooksby, who claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Olympic silver medallist Karen Khachanov of Russia. Also, Spanish stalwart Rafael Nadal entered his 15th BNP Paribas Open with a 15-0 record in 2022, his career-best start to a season, needing a great 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(3) escape to keep that streak intact.

Indian women avenge first leg defeat

BHUBANESWA­R: The Indian women's hockey team beat Germany 3-0 in a dramatic shoot-out to avenge their first leg defeat to share the honours in the two-legged tie of the FIH Pro League here on Sunday. The home side had lost 1-2 in the shoot-out in the first match at the same Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday. Just like on Saturday, both the teams were locked at 1-1 at the end of the regulation time, leading to the shootout.

Indian junior boxers clinch gold medals

NEW DELHI: ISix Indian junior boxers, led by Vini, Yakshika and Vidhi, registered contrastin­g wins to claim gold medals in their respective weight divisions at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championsh­ips in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday. Vini, the diminutive boxer from Hisar, was facing Karina Tokubay of Kazakhstan in the flyweight 50kg final.

Ghosh wins women's 10m air rifle gold

BHOPAL: Mehuli Ghosh of West Bengal beat Karnataka's Tilottama Sen 17-9 to win gold in the women's 10m air rifle National T2 trials here on Sunday. Mehuli, a Youth Olympics silver medallist, had finished second in the T1 trials on Friday. Tilottama, however, won the junior women's 10m air rifle T2 trial. She also finished second in the youth T2 competitio­n, for a profitable three-medal day.
