WR DISRUPTIONS UNTIL MAY 4

- STAFF REPORTER Mumbai

Beginning April 29, for six days, the operations of suburban and long-distance trains will be affected on Western Railway (WR). The authorities have attributed this to the rise in the number of summer special trains and the remodelling of the yard at Niyol. A few long-distance trains will be short-terminated at Borivali station, further impacting the schedule of suburban local trains until May 4.

WR officials said the time will also be used for shifting overhead equipment

(OHE), for which a few trains will be regulated, short-terminated, and partially cancelled, while some others will be provided additional halts. Sources said that more than 10 trains of Karnavati Express, Bhagat ki Kothi, Gandhidham-Bandra Terminus, Ajmer-Dadar will be regulated by 35-55 minutes.

Partial cancellation will be undertaken on the Churchgate-Dahanu route. Additionally, halts have been proposed for a few long distance trains at Virar and Boisar.

The WR is running 21 pairs of summer specials to various destinations. These will complete more than 394 trips to meet the extra demand. Out of these, 11 pairs cater to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while four pairs are for Delhi and beyond. Another four pairs of trains will run to Rajasthan, while two trains are south-bound.

For passengers from Surat and Udhna, five pairs of special trains are being run, while four of originating trains are run from other stations of Gujarat such as Ahmedabad, Gandhi Dham and Okha. In addition, the waiting list of trains is monitored daily on a real time basis and additional coaches are augmented in the existing trains to clear the extra rush.
