Delhi records second hottest April in 72 yrs

Delhi recorded its second hottest April in 72 years with a monthly average maximum temperatur­e of 40.2°C, the Met office said on Friday.

In 2010, Delhi had recorded an average monthly maximum temperatur­e of 40.4°C. The national capital experience­d three prolonged heatwaves this month in the absence of periodic light rainfall and thundersho­wers which typify this time of the year due to the lack of active western disturbanc­es. Barring April 21, when the maximum temperatur­e settled at 35.2°C, Delhi recorded above-normal maximum on all other days.

Raj reels under heatwave, Dholpur hottest at 46.5°C

Rajasthan broiled under severe heat with Dholpur being the hottest at 46.5°C as IMD predicted the heatwave will continue for the next 3-4 days causing a further rise in temperatur­es. Night temperatur­es at many places in the state hovered around the 30°C-mark.

Bundi recorded a night temperatur­e of 31.2°C, Jaipur 31.1°C, Ajmer 30.5°C and Banswara 30.3°C. IMD said Jodhpur and

Bikaner are likely to record maximum between 45 and 47 °C on May 1. From May 2, another western disturbanc­e is likely to develop, leading to thundersto­rms and light rainfall in parts. On Friday, Srigangana­gar recorded a maximum temperatur­e of 46.4°C, Sangaria 46°C, Karauli 45.7°C, Alwar 45.3°C and Churu 45.2°C. UP’s Banda records 47.4°C Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest maximum of 47.4°C and at least half a dozen places across India recorded maximum temperatur­es above 46°C as a massive heat wave swept across 14 states and UTs on Friday.
