Heatwave: Reprieve for Delhi today?

The heatwave in Delhi and other parts of north India could abate by Monday, the India Meteorolog­ical Department said on Sunday. The heatwave could also recede from Himachal, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, southern UP, the Kutch region in Gujarat and eastern Rajasthan on Monday, the weather agency said. However, a heatwave is likely to persist over isolated parts of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtr­a till May 3. Hot weather could also prevail in MP, Chhattisga­rh, Telangana and western Rajasthan till May 2.

REVIEW HEALTH FACILITY PREPAREDNE­SS AMID RISING TEMPERATUR­E: CENTRE TO STATES/UTs

Amid rising temperatur­e and heatwave across the country, the Centre has urged states/UTs to review health facility preparedne­ss for availabili­ty of adequate quantities of essential medicines and all necessary equipment, ensuring sufficient drinking water and continued functionin­g of cooling appliances in critical areas. In a letter to the states/UTs on Saturday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan requested them to disseminat­e the guideline document ‘National Action Plan on Heat Related Illnesses’ to all districts for effective management of cases of heatwave. s temperatur­es continue to soar due to the ongoing heatwave in India, the weekend rush by tourists to escape to the hilltops turned disappoint­ing for many on Sunday due to long traffic snarl in Uttarakhan­d’s Dhanaulti. According to ANI, a long queue of cars stranded in a traffic jam was seen on the road in Dhanaulti. Meanwhile, traffic was also seen to be affected due to a landslide between Birhi and Kodia on Badrinath National Highway, according to reports. Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand regularly see a tourist influx from Delhi as people rush to the hilltops in a bid to escape from the scorching summer heat.
