Cong slams govt over commercial cooking gas price

The Congress on Sunday hit out at the Centre over the reported increase in the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder and demanded a rollback of the hike.

Speaking at the AICC headquarte­rs, Congress leader Alka Lamba also alleged that the Centre is trying to divert attention from real issues and rising prices by peddling divisive rhetoric.

Attacking the government, Lamba said that on March 1, the price of commercial gas cylinder was hiked by Rs 105, on April 1 it was increased by Rs 250 and on May 1 it has been hiked again by Rs 102.5.

In eight months, the price of commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs 618.50, she said. In Delhi, the 19-kg commercial cylinder would now cost Rs 2,355.50 as compared with Rs 2,253 per cylinder, according to media reports.

LPG price hike an attack on poor

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday lashed out at the Centre over hike in petroleum prices and termed it an "attack on the labour class and poor" on the Labour Day. Notably, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 102.50 on Sunday, which now costs Rs 2,355.50 against the earlier price of Rs 2,253. The 5kg LPG cylinder is now priced at Rs 655.

TRS hits out at BJP

The ruling TRS in Telangana attacked the Union government over the increase in the price of the 19kg commercial LPG cylinder. TRS leader and MLC K Kavitha said the price has again been hiked by Rs 102.5 and that the actions and decisions of the Modi government reflect on their alleged insensitiv­ity.
