CIDCO residents! You may get 30 MLD more water from June

In a relief for the residents reeling under water woes, the City and Industrial Developmen­t Corporatio­n (CIDCO) has announced that the agency will provide 30 million litres per day (MLD) more water by May end. However, it specified that the assurance will become a reality only if all goes as planned.

able to add an immediate 30 MLD to the system. “If all goes as per the plan, the current water deficit in the CIDCO administer­ed area is expected to be wiped out,” tweeted CIDCO MD and vice-chairman Dr Sanjay Mukherjee.

He further said the total demand for water in the CIDCO area is 289 MLD and currently there is a shortage of 30 MLD, while the additional 5 MLD from the Navi Mumbai civic body is also in irregular supply. “CIDCO has taken certain immediate measures to improve the situation. This has improved the availabili­ty by around 10 MLD,” the tweet read. In another significan­t step to fulfil water demands, the CIDCO has executed an agreement with the Konkan Irrigation Developmen­t Corporatio­n for allocating additional 120 MLD from Hetawane Dam, for which Rs 119.80 crore has been paid. While the two upcoming dams, Kondhane and Balganga, will provide 250 and 350 MLDs of water, respective­ly, once completed.
