‘Quad meet will give opportunity to review progress of initiatives’
The second in-person Quad Leaders’ Summit in Japan will provide an opportunity for leaders of four countries to review the progress of the grouping’s initiatives and exchange views on developments in the Indo-Pacific as well as global issues of mutual interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday. In his departure statement ahead of his visit to Japan from May 23-24, Modi said during his visit he will also hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden, where they will discuss consolidation of the multi-faceted bilateral relations. “We will also continue our dialogue on regional developments and contemporary global issues,” Modi said.

80th birthday celebrations of Sri Ganapaty Sachchidananda Swami via video-conferencing. Sachchidananda Swami founded the Avadhoota Datta Peetham, an international spiritual, cultural and social welfare organisation. In his remarks, Modi, in the context of the auspicious occasion falling during the period of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, recalled the teaching of seers to stress on putting others before self.
Not joining politics: Kapil
Former India captain Kapil Dev on Sunday quashed reports of him joining politics. The World Cup-winning captain took to Instagram to confirm the same.
“I’ve just received news about me supposedly joining a political party. This is completely untrue. I am not associated with any political party. I’m very disappointed that people spread false news. Be rest assured, if I were ever to take such a big step I would announce it publicly,” Kapil Dev posted on Instagram.
