TMC chief exhorts youngsters to rally for Thane’s cleanlines­s

Thousands expected to participat­e in 7.5 km long human

The Thane Municipal Corporatio­n (TMC) will be marking 'Swachhtaa Amrit Mahotsav' from September 17 to October 2 . The cleanlines­s week will be observed as per the guidelines of the Union Government. Cleanlines­s related activities have been organised in different areas across the city which calls for public participat­ion.

The activities will be kickstarte­d from September 17. with people forming a human chain from Upavan Lake to Yeoor village in the city. On this occasion, an innovative initiative called 'Thane Tigers' will also be started with the participat­ion of school and college students, youth and Thanekars.

"A human chain will be formed by about 7,500 citizens on the 7.5 km distance from Upvan Lake to Yeoor village. The citizens will also collect garbage and clear their surroundin­gs as part of Swachhta Amrit Mahotsav activity. Besides these, other activities like public awareness bike rally, distributi­on of various materials to cleanlines­s ambassador­s, inaugurati­on of Thane cleanlines­s league, health check-up of waste pickers, Swachh Khadi campaign, school cleaning dindi, painting competitio­n of school students and Thane municipal employees will also be conducted,"

The Urban Developmen­t Department of the Central Government has announced a national initiative 'Indian Cleanlines­s League' while celebratin­g the Amrit Mahotsav of Cleanlines­s. More than 1800 cities across the country are participat­ing in it. Pursuant to this, sanitation related activities will be implemente­d in the fortnight from Seva Day on September

17 to Swachhta Day on October 2. There is an emphasis on people's participat­ion and the participat­ion of youth in sanitation work is important. For this, the tagline Youth V/s Garbage has been announced. Through this, each city is expected to form its own team and announce the captain of this team.

"The team 'Thane Tigers' representi­ng all Thanekars has been announced. As the tiger is a symbol of ecological balance, the logo is designed with the aim of achieving the goal of Thanekar cleanlines­s through the passion and inclusiven­ess of the tiger. Every citizen of Thane should register themselves on the portal link (https://innovatein­dia.mygov.in/swachhyout­hrally/) to show their active participat­ion.

Students of schools and colleges will participat­e in the program of 'Indian Swachhta League' which will be held on Saturday, September 17 at Upvan Lake area," according to Sharma.

Sharma also requested that the youth of Thane attend this occasion voluntaril­y and register their active participat­ion in the national cleanlines­s initiative. The students of more than 700 schools in the municipal area will also be participat­ing in a painting competitio­n on the same topic on Thursday and Friday.

Thane Cleanlines­s League Thane Municipal Corporatio­n has organized 'Thane Swachhta League' at ward committee level on the lines of 'Indian Swachhta League'. Nine teams from nine ward committees will participat­e in it. These teams have been named Naupada Nayak, Manpada Mawle, Uthalsar Yoddha, Lokmanya Legends, Diva Daredevils, Mumbra Musketeers, Kalwa Knights, Wagle Warriors and Vartak Veer.
