Girl abducted, raped; accused on the run

The Matunga Police have launched a manhunt for a 30year-old man for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl from Wadala area and then raping her.According to the police, the victim’s parents approached the police and registered a complaint against the accused.

“The accused kidnapped the victim from outside her residence and later took her to a place near Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai. They knew each other for some time. We have lodged a complaint on the basis of the statement of the victim’s family,” said a senior police officer at Matunga Police station.“Things will be much clearer after we nab the accused,” he added.

According to police sources, three teams are being formed to nab the accused who is apparently hiding somewhere in his hometown Satara district.

“The victim and the accused were residing in the same locality before she moved to Mumbai for her college education. Even till the incident, they were in touch with each other via social networking sites where they spoke to each other frequently,” said a police source.They further mentioned that a family member of the victim had spotted the two together at Kalamboli in a car, who then took the matter to a local police station where the FIR was lodged last week. Later the case was transferre­d to Matunga police station.

The victim, a college-going student, was rescued by a family member and handed over to the parents. The police confirmed the girl's statement has been recorded and she will be soon sent for medical examinatio­n.

The inquiries in the case are under process, confirmed the police.
