How to take care of your hair during the festive season

-

Oiling: A good oil massage on your scalp may solve most of your hair woes and leave you with healthier and glossier hair. There is no need to oil your every day, doing it once a week is a good start to get used to the goodness of oiling. Oiling also adds life to them and restores the lost moisture and shine. Moreover, massaging your scalp results in better blood circulation, which as per the study leads to faster hair growth.

Cleansing: Cleaning your scalp and hair is imperative. It helps you to get rid of all the product build-up. Most of the time, toxic chemicals such as sulphates, paraben, and phthalates present in hair products do a great job at giving you a clean scalp but, they also do more damage than good for your hair. Therefore, switch to natural and organic shampoos to protect your hair from damage. Use a dermatologistrecommended medicated shampoo that maintains your scalp’s pH balance and is made of natural ingredients which are beneficial for your hair. In addition to this, one can also use natural conditioners to keep hair moisturised, frizz-free and manageable.

Styling: Avoid using heatstyling tools to style your hair. We tend to use such styling products, especially during the festive season when we have to look our best. But these products are extremely harmful to your hair. They not only damage the hair but, reduces its life. In case it becomes a necessity, use a heat-protectant spray or leave-in conditioner before you even think about styling your hair. Do not use any heating tool when your hair is damp and always air dry

your hair completely before you style.

Eat right: Eating a balanced diet is essential for your overall health including the health of your hair. During the festive season, we often tend to eat an excessive amount of sweets, drink, and consume unhealthy meals which negatively impact our hair. Therefore, follow a healthy and nutritious diet rich in vitamins and minerals that will nourish your hair from within. It is also important to add antioxidants and antiinflammatory ingredients such as curcumin, ginger piper, Q10, and vitamin C to your diet. Ensure your diet provides a mix of fatty fish, nuts, green leafy vegetables and colourful fruits to give you a mix of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and omega fatty acids that will keep your skin healthy.

The bottom line: With the above tips and a healthy haircare routine, you can keep your hair healthy even during the festive and say goodbye to bad hair days. In case you feel your haircare routine is not working as effectively as it should, make sure to consult a dermatologist.
