TMC forms 15-member panels to monitor LS constituencies

- ARITRA SINGHA / Kolkata

Trinamool Congress (TMC) has formed 15-member committees for 30 Lok Sabha constituencies across the state.

According to TMC sources, special focus will be given to those that were won by the saffron camp in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“The target is all 42 seats, but special focus will be given to those seats where BJP has won or is close. Each committee will have MLAs and senior party leaders,” said TMC sources.

Incidentally, it was seen that after the ruling party has announced their candidates in all the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies, several dissenting leaders from the party have raised their voices over the candidate selection. Some even were heard threatening to contest as independent candidates against TMC's candidates.

Meanwhile, BJP is yet to finalise candidates for several constituencies in the state.

According to saffron camp sources, a high-level meeting was held at the national capital to decide upon the candidates.

Notably, party state president Sukanta Majumdar and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited Delhi on

Monday.

After Asansol candidate Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh withdrew his nomination, the saffron camp is yet to announce candidates for 23 constituencies in West Bengal. In the first list, the BJP has announced candidates of 20 constituencies and after the Asansol candidate's withdrawal, the saffron camp will now have to announce names of 23 candidates.

In the recent past, slamming the saffron camp, TMC national secretary Abhishek Banerjee said that BJP is waiting for the ‘rejected’ leaders of TMC to make their candidates.
