‘100 per cent GVP points should be removed’

Topics such as facial recognitio­n attendance system, monitoring of street sweeping machines, removal of GVPs, C&D wastage, etc. were discussed and suggestion­s were made.

GHMC Commission­er Ronald Ross today directed the AMHOs to pay special attention to C&D wastage in the city. A meeting on sanitation management was held with zonal commission­ers and health and sanitation department officials at the command control hall in the GHMC headquarte­rs on Tuesday. Topics such as facial recognitio­n attendance system, monitoring of street sweeping machines, removal of GVPs, C&D wastage, etc. were discussed and suggestion­s were made.

Speaking on the occasion, Commission­er Ronald Ross directed the officials to monitor the attendance of SWG workers and take steps to implement mobile-based facial recognitio­n, biometric attendance system with respect to the attendance of sanitation workers. Pin point programme should be done and sweeping machines should be monitored, he said . He also said that Black covers should be used to dispose of the swept garbage and asked them to identify the designated garbage collection points. He said that A garbage collection point route plan should be put in place and tie up with ranky vehicles. He said that boards should be displayed so that garbage is not littered on the roads.

He also said that steps should be taken to ensure that street vendors and shops set up garbage bins and a fine should be imposed for littering wherever they fall. He said that Street vendors and owners of commercial shops had been advised to tie up with Swachh auto trolleys for collection of market waste.

“Strict action should be taken against illegal dumping of C&D waste. Meetings should be held with truck operators and citizens and truck operators should be sensitised about toll free number and mobile applicatio­ns,” he noted .

He said that those who are constructi­ng buildings in various parts of the city were dumping the constructi­on material on the road and added that such people should be fined while noting that if they do the same thing again, the constructi­on material should be seized and an FIR should also be registered. He said that Steps should be taken to keep the constructi­on material inside.

He also said that Steps should be taken to completely eliminate garbage vulnerable points. He further said proper planning should be made for proper lifting of GVPs and additional vehicles should be provided at zonal level while noting that vehicles should be tracked. He suggested that awareness should be created with SLFs in all slums and bulk waste generators should be restored.
