Lead actors unveil the new sizzle of the spy franchise
Varun
Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, alongside directors Raj & DK, revealed the title and new sizzle of the Indian version of the global spy series Citadel
on Tuesday. The show’s details were disclosed at an OTT platform’s slate announcement event, which was hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar. Set against the backdrop of Raat Baaqi, the initial glimpse of the 1990s-themed series, named Citadel: Honey Bunny, showcases Dhawan and Ruth Prabhu battling adversaries.
The cast also include actors Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar, Kashvi Majmundar, Saquib Saleem, and Sikandar Kher in significant roles.
Citadel: Honey Bunny promises to be an engaging narrative that blends the adrenaline-pumping elements of a gritty spy thriller with the heartwarming essence of romance, all against the lively backdrop of the ‘90s. At the event,
Varun Dhawan said he wanted to work with Raj & DK after watching the second season of their hit series The Family Man, which also featured Ruth Prabhu. “I picked up the call and asked them how I could collaborate with you,” Dhawan shares, recalling how the directors informed him that they had something cooking without giving details. Speaking of being a part of the series, Samantha says, “I never would have imagined that I would do action. But today, for me, being at this event is already such a victory because the last moment I didn’t really think I could do it. I didn’t think I would be a part of Citadel. I’m extremely grateful to Raj, DK, Sita, and Amazon for really coming to my rescue. I just had to prep physically. I am just so incredibly proud already that this is the way it is, this is the way it looks. I can’t believe – this is how it looks.”
Co-director Raj Nidimoru says, “The characters of Dhawan and Ruth Prabhu are called Honey and Bunny”.
“We are always trying to do something new each time, we challenge ourselves to do something new. We are getting into drama, action, and intense love story territory for the first time. We wanted a contrasting title; the characters are called Honey Bunny,” he concludes.
