Strong winds leave pilgrims stranded at Girnar
Around 50 pilgrims, including women, children, and elderly individuals, found themselves stranded atop Mount Girnar after strong winds forced the suspension of the ropeway service. While around 250 people managed to descend using the stairs or traditional dolis (carrying contraptions), those unable to make the trek down remained on the mountain.
The sudden halt in ropeway service, a frequent occurrence during adverse weather conditions, caused initial alarm among the stranded pilgrims, most of whom were Hindispeaking visitors from other states like Maharashtra and Kerala. Fortunately, the Ambaji Temple administration sprang into action under the direction of Mahant Tansukhgiri Bapu.
"There are no hotels, guesthouses, or restaurants on Mount Girnar," explained Tushar Goswami, a temple priest. "When the ropeway closed, some pilgrims were understandably worried.
However, the temple ensured everyone received food and arranged overnight accommodation for those in need."
The temple administration provided meals for all the stranded pilgrims. Accommodation was offered within the temple itself, with overflow being directed to the nearby Girnar Wireless Police Station. This swift action ensured the safety and wellbeing of the stranded pilgrims until the ropeway service could resume.
This incident highlights the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations, especially when visiting remote locations. While the ropeway service offers a convenient option for ascending and descending Mount Girnar, pilgrims should also be aware of alternative routes and be prepared for potential delays due to weather.
