CM Revanth promises insurance facility for Gulf workers

The union leaders and Gulf workers to extend their support for Congress in the Lok Sabha polls and elect Jeevan Reddy, who is contesting from Nizamabad Parliament constituen­cy on behalf of the party, as an MP.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has informed that steps are being taken to provide insurance facility for the Gulf workers.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Gulf trade unions here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the State government was studying to set up a special board for workers going to Gulf and other countries, aimed at providing the better facilities.

He also assured that the State government would set up a toll free number and would constitute a separate mechanism to resolve the issues of Gulf workers.

"The decision has already been taken to set up a separate mechanism in the Praja Bhavan aimed at resolving the problems of Gulf workers. I assure that all issues related to the Gulf workers will be sorted out by September 17," Revanth Reddy said.

Stating that the Gulf workers, mostly belonged to the North Telangana, are being deceived by agents and are being harassed by the management­s, the Chief Minister said that the Telangana government has already studied the policies of Philippine country and Kerala government and steps would be initiated to resolve their issues as early as possible.

"After the end of the election code, the State government will invite the union leaders and Gulf workers for talks to take suggestion­s for preparing the best policy document. In addition to this, steps will be taken to provide legal assistance to Gulf workers and to avoid being cheated in the hands of agents," Revanth Reddy disclosed.

The Chief Minister also promised that measures would be taken to register the details of agents with the State government and to conduct a training programme for one week to those workers going to the Gulf countries.
