The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party has lodged a complaint to the State DGP about the overzealous and illegal cases being filed by the government and the police against party workers in the State, especially against social media activists of the party.

In its complaint , the party said within four months of coming to power, the Congress government in the State was behaving in a manner that makes a mockery of democracy. It alleged that those who question the government's policies and performance were being targeted by the State government. It said the government was not able to tolerate its criticism by the BRS leaders and activists.

“The police are filing cases with great enthusiasm when our party leaders post posts criticising the government on social media. They are being terrorised. They are trying to hurt the morale of the BRS activists by resorting to threats on the phones, cases. If you criticise the government, cases are being filed without even considering the law. The police officers are also singing to the government and showing great enthusiasm and grudge against the BRS leaders and activists. In a democratic government, such things are not accepted under any circumstances.

Salwaji Madhava Rao, an activist of our party, was accused of posting on social media against Congress MLA from Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district Adluri Lakshman,” it said. It also said a case of SC/ST atrocities had been filed against him with the help Rona rowdy-sheeter Sogali Tirupathi and added that he was being mentally harassed by the police now. The party claimed that the entire Telangana community was angry with the police.

“Governments are not permanent. No matter which government is in power, the police should work in a way that protects democracy and freedom of expression. But some policemen are working to appease the ruling party's ministers and MLAs by pressing their feet,” the party said.
