Day temp reaches close to 40 degrees Celsius, chances of light rain tomorrow

Night temperatur­e too increases above 24 degrees Celsius

There was no relief for residents from the scorching heat as the mercury level reached close to 40 degrees Celsius mark on Wednesday. The cloudy weather on Wednesday evening failed to provide any relief but the rise in humidity added to the citizen’s woes.

Moreover, the meteorolog­ical department said there would be no relief in the coming days except chances of light rains on April 19-20.

Hot winds would continue to blow and the temperatur­e on Thursday would touch the 40-degreeCels­ius mark. Hot winds blowing across the city made the day unbearable for residents on Wednesday as people confined themselves indoors to protect themselves from the onslaught of hot air.

The maximum temperatur­e on Wednesday was 39.6 degrees Celsius, which was one degree Celsius above normal, while the minimum temperatur­e was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius, three degrees Celsius from normal.

Interior Karnataka and another trough runs from Gulf of Mannar to south Telangana in lower tropospher­ic levels. Under their influence, isolated to scattered rainfall with thundersto­rm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Madhya Pradesh on April 19 and 20, and over Vidarbha and Chhattisga­rh during April 19 and 21,” a department official said, adding, “The temperatur­e will remain high on Thursday. There are chances of a decrease in temperatur­e after April 18 due to light showers as moisture incursion will take place.”

The humidity recorded on Wednesday morning was 34 per cent, while it was 18 per cent in the evening. A fluctuatio­n of temperatur­es was seen due to the change in the wind pattern and it also made Wednesday hottest of the season so far in the season.
