Bacchu fights police after Amravati rally is cancelled

- KALPESH MHAMUNKAR / MUMBAI

A huge row erupted between Prahar Janshakti Party MLA Bachchu Kadu and police officials in Amravati’s Science Core grounds on Tuesday evening after the legislator and his party workers tried to enter the ground to prepare for a rally scheduled for Wednesday.

The police tried to prevent Kadu from conducting preparations in light of Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally scheduled on the same ground.

Bachchu Kadu’s party is facing MahaYuti candidate Navneet Rana in Amravati. The Election Commission had given permission for the public meeting for Kadu’s candidate Dinesh Bub at the Science Core ground on April 23 and 24. However, as Shah was going to hold a meeting for Rana at the same ground, the police cancelled the permission given to Bub’s rally on grounds of security.

After this Kadu reached the ground on Tuesday and protested with the police. According to Kadu, the BJP had booked the ground for April 21 and 22, and his party for April 23 and 24.

The PJP claimed that the fee for the ground was paid and receipt was also received. Kadu along with his workers reached the ground where preparations were being done and agitated. Kadu asked: “If we paid the money and received permission then how can the police cancel the permission and allow BJP to hold a rally?” The police tried to stop him but Kadu was not pacified. “Has the home minister told you to break the rules?” he asked.

Kadu also tore up the permission letter of the police.” You are citing security reasons. You have given permission to us then how can Amit Shah hold his rally?” he asked.

When journalists asked Kadu if he had registered a complaint before the Election Commission, he said: “There is no point in registering a complaint. Nothing will happen.” There are four candidates in Amravati: Navneet Rana from the BJP, Balwant Wankhade from the Congress, Dinesh Bub and Anand Raj Ambedkar.
