A DNA test for Rahul to see if he is a Gandhi?
Electioneering for the Lok Sabha polls hit yet another low when Nilambur CPM MLA P V Anvar demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should undergo a DNA test to ascertain if he really was a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family.
Addressing a public meeting in Palakkad Monday, Anvar said Rahul Gandhi should undergo a DNA test to confirm his biological linkage to the Nehru family. He also said Rahul had no right to claim that he is the greatgrandson of Nehru. He should undergo a DNA test to ascertain if he can use the suffix Gandhi to his name or he would just be called Rahul.
“In the past two days, Rahul Gandhi has become someone who does not deserve to carry the Gandhi surname with his name. I doubt if a member of the Nehru family can say such things (referring to his comments on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan not getting arrested by central agencies). Therefore, he needs to do a DNA test to confirm whether he is from the Nehru family or not,” Anva said.
His sharp reaction was to Rahul Gandhi’s demand that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should be jailed. Pinarayi defended his MLA saying that Rahul Gandhi is no special person and he will get back to the statements that he makes. “He is not beyond criticism,” he said. The Congress expectedly fumed at Anvar’s statement. KPCC working president MM Hassan Tuesday filed a complaint against the MLA with the Election Commission and said the CPM lawmaker is desperate to defend and support the BJP. Instead of criticizing the BJP, the CPM is directing all its fury against the Congress – a proof of a secret deal, he said.
Anvar is the new reincarnation of Godse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi. He said the words of Anvar are deadlier than the bullets of Godse, the Congress leader said. “We shall take up the matter in all fora,” he added.
Anvar later told the press that he stood by what he said.
During a series of election campaigns in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi had criticised Pinarayi for not attacking the BJP in the same way he was criticising him (Rahul). “Why are they not taking away his house, taking away his chief ministership? he wondered.
